UMBC Theatre presents in the darkest forest, directed by Nigel Semaj. Inspired by the aesthetics of horror films, Semaj and company go on a journey into Shakespeare’s “forest” plays where characters find adventure, terror, and transformation.
Salty is a play about penguins and people. It is set in one of the last remaining conservation zoos in a future gripped by catastrophes created by climate change. Animals have stopped procreating, humans suffer debilitating headaches, predators run rampant, and amidst it all, two male Adelie penguins decide to parent an egg in their small Antarctic exhibit. Salty cleverly decanters the human experience of climate catastrophe and highlights the inspiring natural animal instincts of survival.
